Extended radius arms

Post by crazyredneckanyhow » Wed Dec 23, 2009 7:26 pm

These are extended arms im building bas around the 70s Ford arms. I seem to see alot of Jeeps running the Ford 44/9" combo so this might help someone here. Im using 2"x4" 1/4" box tubing. For joints i bought Ballistic 3.0s with square tube adapters. So first off i cut a 48" piece of tubing. its 12" longer than the factory arm. I then marked 12" on it and fit the adapter and cut the tube on an angle.

I then cut the factory arm at 10" from the inside of the radius that the bushing goes into. I then notched the tubing to slid around the factory "C" section.

This is an overall shot as of now. I will plate the entire front section and build in shock mounts soon. From the floor to the bolt hole in the joint is 54".

May be a lil long for a Jeep with as long as i made them. They mount almost under my rear bad mounts on my 79 F-150. I just wanted to use this as a reference for the Jeep guys.

Oh and id also like to point out the way the tube sets. Its welded seam tubing and the seam is on one of the 2" sides. I placed that side on top of the radius arm. Ive seen tube with the seam on the bottom split when alot of blunt force is applied.
