Unless you want to use it everyday, for a long time, buy any of them, they all work the same, a bumper weight. If you want one that is made to "BE USED" definetely spend the extra and buy the better winch "WARN". Also if you intend on using everyday, frequently you need to upgrade your alternator and battery.

You should refer back the first statement made. I don't care what brand you buy when you buy a CHEAP winch, you are getting just that, a CHEAP bottom shelf winch. It doesn't matter what name it's sold under.

Actually, my winch has a 6HP motor (12,500LB winch) and a Limited lifetime/3 year electrical warranty, is very waterproofed, and is made in China.

I've had my mile marker 9000 for 4 years now and never had a problem. Pulls as slow as the seven year itch, but gets the job done.

I have had 2 Mile Marker winches. The first one burnt up after 4-5 years. It was the same brand that Tom has right now. The second one has had problems as well, but is still working. For the money, I really cant complain about them to much. With that said, when I get another one, it WILL be a Warn. I do use mine fairly often both on myself, and on other people, but that is what happens when you get off of a dirt road every now and then. Guess that I am just not as good of a driver as the rest of you guys.

I have seen fairly good things out of the Smittybuilt winches, but they are the only "cheap" brands that I can speak of first hand. I agree that they are all pretty much the same regardless of brand name. The nice thing about the Smitty's is the lifetime warranty that you could get with them for a while through 4wd.com. I will probably be buying one of these when it comes time for one on my trailer.

The 12.5 was only about $100 more than the 9.5. Just figured I'd get the most for the money.

TOO TRUE! I was pulling myself up a rock and my dang headlights kept dimming. I have a good battery but I guess Im going to have to upgrade my alt.

Anyone know if I need the Zj alt with the 6 grooves or the 7 groove one. Its dark outside..

I'll say spend the extra money, buy a WARN and go on with life.
Look at it this way, When youre stuck out in the middle of BFE by yourself with nobody around but you and the mud hole/creek youre stuck in...
which would you rely on? A cheap winch that you saved a few dollars on OR a well built winch?

looking at winches again as mine is sold.

found a decent 8500 winch in my price range, but noticed it comes with a haws instead of roller fair lead with steel cable. seems odd. should i be concerned?

I'm gettin the xrc 8 as well. Good reviews, great looking, and ya can't beat the price. I don't need a winch that's gonna last longer than my jeep...
