Track Bar Bracket Issues

Post by TJinWV » Sat Apr 18, 2015 8:24 pm

So I tracked my death wobble issue down to the axle-side front track bar bracket. Right when I saw it, I realized what was going on. In the past, I had an aftermarket track bar with a larger-than-stock bolt through that bracket, so I had drilled it out for the new bolt to fit. I picked up a new JKS adjustable track bar, and after fighting to get the old one out (I had to cut the bolt twice with a sawzall, because it was seized to the bushing sleave), I just slapped the new one in and forgot about it. Now I realize that the JKS bar had a stock-size bolt in it, so there is movement all around the bolt.

So my question is - should I attempt to ream out the JKS bushing, or should I attempt to fix/replace the axle-side track bar bracket? The bracket does have some scoring from the previous sawzall work, though I don't think it's enough to compromise it's integrity. I have no welder or welding experience, and I don't think a major suspension component is a good place for me to start. :naughty: I'm open to suggestions for replacement or correction options.

Imo get a replacement bracket and get someone to weld it up for you. I bet Charlie Ho would help.

Building a capable off road Jeep is easy...building a street legal one that you can drive two hours away to wheel and then drive to work the following morning is the challenge.

BTT

So what did you guys do with the track bar bushing? I know you told me but I can't remember. Trying to chase down the death wobble and everything seems tight as far as steering and suspension go. Only thing I can think of is the vehicle is severely out of alignment and the BFGs are el garbago.

We pressed out the bushing with the stock bolt hole and pressed in one of JKS's HD bushings and used the larger bolt. So the bolt matches the hole in the bracket. It should not be a problem now. I bet the new shoes will help tremendously, if not eliminate the problem.

Yeah I'm hoping it's a tire and alignment issue.
