Potential Trail Closure in Ritchie County
« on: July 27, 2020, 05:03:30 PM »

---------OFF HIGHWAY CALL TO ACTION--------- (from Brian Holmes)

On Thursday 7/23/2020 there was a public meeting for the proposed closure of Cr 30/3, a road that crosses Ritchie County Mines WMA (which is public land). This road is KEY to access for disabled persons as well as access for hunters to aid in animal harvests on these public lands.  It ensures emergency personnel can access remote parts of the WMA that cannot be accessed by any other road.  This unrestricted access road provides more rapid access when seconds and minutes count, much more so than a restricted or closed road could.

The WV Off-Highway Coalition and public land users were in strong representation tonight at the Lions Club in Harrisville and we appreciate ALL the support we had tonight.  We had over 25 individuals in attendance.  We ALSO want to thank the folks from Charleston who came to discuss the matter with us and listen to our comment.

*******THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN DO******

You do NOT have to be a state resident to comment.

So we are now in need of EVERYONE'S help.  Please write a letter OR email of comment to the Commissioner of Highways on or before August 23rd 2020.  The address is as follows:

Commissioner, West Virginia Division of Highways
Strategic Performance Management Division attn:Sara Cremeans
Capitol Complex Building 5, Room 720 1900 Kanawha Blvd
Charleston, WV 25305-0430

Or if you prefer email, Greg Bailey was kind enough to give us his email address it is:

ALSO if you don't know what to say, I have made a pre-filled email link.  Just click the link then click "Create email" this will then open your default email app and all you have to do is put your name on the bottom and click send. Or you can edit as you see fit.  ------>>> <<<-----

IMPORTANT: Key items the letter should include are- 1) Emergency access (ems, fire etc) 2) Access to public lands that inhibit hunter access and especially elderly and disabled hunters that utilize this land. There is actually only one class 2 road in the district that provides access to disabled and elderly sportsmen. Closure of this road will restrict access to public lands.
