Head unit upgrade
« on: February 10, 2019, 06:18:52 PM »
We’ve upgraded all stereo components excluding the head. We have the low end head unit with UConnect. Vandy really doesn’t like Uconnect but would like to keep her steering controls. We would alike wireless CarPlay... Any suggestions? We would like to keep a budget of $600 but understand wireless CarPlay may put us over. I’d like to do installs myself so that may help the budget.

Answered elsewhere but posting here for any that may look.

Alpine ILX-107 has wireless CarPlay. Maestro-RR will allow keeping the steering controls. There are some others like PAC audio that will keep steering wheel controls as well, Ive only used the maestro.

I've got this one.

MCWAUTO Car Stereo GPS DVD Player for Dodge Ram Challenger Jeep Wrangler JK Head Unit Single Din 6.2 Touch Screen Indash Radio Receiver with Navigation Bluetooth/3G https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D77BWPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sxtMCb0Y4YBWD

It actually works really well.   Does Apple Car Play and Android Auto.  Sounds good enough.   Big step up from the stock 130 I had.

It doesn't cost that much more to just do it yourself.

I went with the Insane Audio JK1001.  Got a smoking deal on a used one from a local.  I'm very pleased with it.
